Shed Progress....

I really wonder how many more blogs we are going to have with this title. Hunter's one day shed project has turned into a 6 month shed project. BUT, I'm not complaining because they are working hard and it looks great! This past sunday Hunter and his Dad added all the trim, a ramp, and a door to the infamous shed! Next they need to put up shelves on the inside, caulk the outside, and add two coats of primer paint. Then we can paint it to match our house and WA-LA! Whew I'm tried just thinking about it and its not even my project. Problem is we are heading into college football season so Hunters weekends of being productive around the house are officially far and few between. We're excited though!!! Heading to D.C. this weekend for the Boise State/Virginia Tech game at FEDEX field! GO HOKIES!!!!

Family Weekend # 2

Hi friends and fam! Some of you know what family week #2 consisted of but for those that do not, hold onto your hats!
I want to start out by saying even though our plans MAJORLY changed I can't help but think the original title of this blog continues to be very fitting.
We ended up getting two glorious and relaxing days at the beach until Monday night when we got "the call." Hunter's grandfather (aka "E") had passed away. It was so so sad and I honestly had been dreading this moment since the day I met Hunter. I've lost several grandparents, the first one being in 9th grade, and when I met Hunter at the age of 24 and he told me he'd never been to a funeral and had all his grandparents living, I knew it was going to be a hard first!
We packed up the cars and headed to Danville, VA Tuesday Morning. Tuesday through Sunday consisted of tears, hugs, stories/laughs about "E", and a continuous outpouring of food, flowers and visitors from all who love him and Gram in Danville, VA. I'll be honest and I think Hunter would agree it was a LONG week! But, it was a true celebration of life for "E" and a little one for Hunter's dad who's birthday was on Saturday. Sweet baby Reagan (Hunter's niece) did a great job of keeping a smile on EVERYONE's face, and most importantly we are so grateful for the fact that we were all together throughout the whole thing! Not as good of scenery as the beach but non the less a "family weekend". Here's a few pics from our two day's in Pawley's and a couple from the week in Danville.

Family Weekend #1

As I mentioned in my first post Matt and Katy are moving to California soon and we wanted to all get together as a family before they left. So... to Nana and Papa's house we went! It was a short trip for Hunter and I because we couldn't take any time off of work. We got in late Friday night and only had all day Saturday with everyone but it was sooo worth the trip anyways! All the girls are growing fast and cute as can be! Being around family really makes us wish we lived closer to them all. Saturday's big event was the D.C. National Zoo. Enjoy the pics :)

Sweet Emma

Happy Riley!

Papa was the stroller guy!

Hunter and I are heading to Pawley's Island saturday to spend a week at the beach with his family! Stay tuned for Family Weekend #2! xoxo

Chef Hunter

For those of you that don't know, Hunter does the majority of the cooking in our household. (And fairly healthy cooking, I might add). I never expected this role reversal in my marriage but must say it is nice! Hunter's Gram, who has made his grandfather three square meals everyday for the past 50 years, always says..."Kristen doesn't know how lucky she is" haha. She's probably right, although I am very appreciative of my chef! Hunter LOVES to dabble with cooking. I use the word dabble because he never follows a recipe yet his meals are ALWAYS amazing! I truly believe he could have a cooking show on the food network or something but he slacks in the secretarial part of the job, never recording or remembering how much of everything he puts in it. Once again, being a good little wife, this is where I'll step in and help out. :)

The idea came to me last night, as we were enjoying yummy succotash Hunter made, to start recording the best of his meals on our blog. This will be a great way for us as a family to save his recipes and also to share them with our friends and family!

Succotash
Smoked Sausage cut up and lightly browned
Fresh cut Okra, 1lb or so cut
1 large Sweet Onion, chopped
2 cans White Corn, or 4 ears cut
1 pkg Lima beans
4 can Stewed tomatoes
Lightly brown the sausage, the add onions and sauté with 2 or 3 cloves minced garlic and just a little butter. Steam limas separately. Add tomatoes, then everything else and simmer 30 minutes to an hour. Season with a little Cajun seasoning and healthy amount of black pepper. Add steamed limas the last 10 minutes or so.

Conveniently, Hunter works right next to the Charlotte Farmer's Market and is able he stops there after work to pick up fresh produce. Lima beans happen to be what was available but he made the comment that he thinks his Mom and Gram use butter beans. I wish I had a picture to show you all how yummy it look. I'm definitely not used to taking pictures of our food but will start too :) Xoxo.

Shed progress

Well Hunter and his Dad made some progress on the shed this weekend, which is more than I can say for my painting project. The shed now has walls! They didn't get around to the door, painting it, or working on the inside but it's coming along slowly but surely. We're out of town the next three weekends which will make it tough to finish but I'm sure Hunter will peck away at it after work during the weeks.

DP+KY's engagement party was a HUGE HIT and we had a great time celebrating with the happy couple :) (They are the ones in pink in the pictures)
